Architectural Design Competition 'Reimagining the Envelope, Beautification of Engineering Complex'! The competition was organized by the Department of Architecture in association with the Faculty of Engineering and Planning and Development Office of Daffodil International University.

Under the MoU among Department of Architecture, Daffodil International University (DIU) and REVIVAL & Sheva on Design-Build of JAMDANI WEAVER’S HOUSE to Achieve SDGs, a three-day long participatory residential research workshop was held from 23-25th June at Boragaon, Sonargaon.

The workshop was conducted in the house of Md. Jamal Hossain, a master weaver from Sonargaon, who used to weave with a thread count of 200 to 300. Students from 9 universities and architects, and professionals from 5 different organizations worked tirelessly day and night to document the weaving process, the living condition of the weavers, and the context of the village.

Sheikh Muhammad Rezwan, Head, Department of Architecture, DIU and Huda Mohammed Faisal, Co-founder, Revival facilitated the workshop with the help of Sheva.

The Department of Architecture, Daffodil International University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sheva Nari O Shishu Kallyan Kendra & REVIVAL, Chattogram, Bangladesh for “Design-BUILD of Jamdani Weaver House to Achieve SGGs” on June 12 at Daffodil Smart City, Ashulia, Dhaka.

The local Union Parishad Chairman and ward counsellors, around 15 local community representatives were invited at the Department of Architecture, DIU to share the design proposal on Future Birulia. Under the department initiative 'Ashulia Urban Lab' the level-4 term-1 design studio focused on 'A spatial framework for future Birulia' led by Ahmed Inzamam Chowdhury. The department students are invited to the chairman office for a walkshop visit and decided to work closely together.

The head of the Department of Architecture, DIU and Local team leader assigned by the firm superwien, presented the participatory urban design (PUD) process to the DSCC Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh. The respected country director and regional director of the World Bank was also present, WB being the development partner of the DCNUP (Dhaka City Neighborhood Upgrading Project). Mr. Rezwan explained how PUD was implemented in one of the sub-project of DCNUP. Department of Architecture, DIU is the local academic partner of this project, the first involvement of academia with the local government project. Also one of the students of the Competition winner Nadim Hasan Pulok (student of DIU) met the honorable mayor. The exhibition was attended by the president of IAB,IEB, BIP and other think tanks.

Department of Architecture, Daffodil International University developed an exhibition space in department lobby, and double height space. Professor Dr. S.M. Mahbub Ul Haque Majumder, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Daffodil International University inaugurated the newly developed exhibition space on 02 April 2022. After visiting the projects, the honorable pro-vice-chancellor inaugurated the design charette titled 'Celebration'- marking the 50 years celebration of Bangladesh.

Newly developed exhibition space and a 2 days long Design Charette by the Department of Architecture, DIU.

Professor Dr. S.M. Mahbub Ul Haque Majumder, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Daffodil International University inaugurated the Newly developed exhibition space and a 2 days long Design Charette on 02 April 2022. After visiting the projects, the honorable pro-vice-chancellor inaugurated the design charette titled 'Celebration'- marking the 50 years celebration of Bangladesh. The purpose of the charette is to encourage students’ engagement among different levels, analytical mindset development, and instantaneous problem-solving skills.

The exhibition space showcased the outstanding design outcome of the students of the Fall 2021 semester. The students explained their projects to the guests, which would sharpen their presentation skills.

Students selected a site from the DSC campus and with the help of Alumni-teacher mentoring, they will submit a design. The jury board (2 Faculty members and one external member) will decide the winners of the charrette. The best projects will be displayed in the department premise and will be shared with the P&D department of the university.

The Head of the Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty Members of the Department, Alumni, and students were present during the inauguration.

The chapter number 6 of "Resilient Public Spaces: sharing urban design practices in times of crisis" is coming up! Closing the Housing Gap: Wednesday, 09th of March, 10am - 12pm (Santo Domingo),  / 15pm – 17pm (Vienna) / 16pm - 18pm (Maputo) /  20pm - 22 pm (Dhaka). Inspiring guests from different regions of the world will share urban design practices directed towards mitigating the current housing crisis.
